Air Hockey Guide
Air hockey is one of the most exhilarating games
out there. It’s incredibly fast and loads of fun. One of
the most popular choices in arcades, there are now many air hockey
tables available for the home market.
When purchasing an air hockey table for your home
there are a few features to pay special attention to.
1. Base Structure
The first consideration is the actual construction
of the air hockey table. Considering how frantic and fast paced
air hockey can be it is important to purchase a solid base that
is going to stand the test of countless matches.
If space for the air hockey table is limited then
remember to look for models with bolt-on legs. This way you can
easily store the table away when you have finished playing.
Also, this might become the centrepiece of your
home, so of course it’s important that it looks good. There
are loads of cool and modern designs, so make sure you have a
good browse before you buy.
2. Level Playing Field
Pay special attention to the quality of the actual
playing field. Remember to choose a hardwearing surface that will
not dent easily. Dents on the playing field not only damage the
design but also more importantly can affect play!
3. Motor
It’s pretty standard that most air hockey
tables come with a 240V electric air blower motor. This provides
enough air power through the hundreds of air holes to create a
fantastically fast paced game - without causing a local blackout!
A quick reminder, the more you play you may find
the puck starts to slow on some parts of the playing field. But
it’s just dirt blocking the air flows, so use a fine tool
like a paperclip and clear the air holes and see your table restored
to excellence.
4. Pucks
You can get variety of different pucks. Larger,
heavier pucks are a bit easier to hit so ideal for the beginner.
But as you become more of an expert upgrade to the smaller pucks
and develop your skills even further.
5. Pushers
Most tables come with standard pushers, however
there’s quite a range of pusher designs available. And it’s
worth experimenting, because finding a pusher you are really comfortable
with can really improve the quality of your game.
6. Automatic Scorer
A lot of the higher end models come with electronic,
automatic scorers. This is great for the more serious competitors
out there! |
